TREASURY CHAMBERS,

GREAT GEORGE STREET, 78

LONDON, S.W.1.

24 JAN 12 January, 1947

C. O. REGY

flease refer to your letter of 10th January relating to the emoluments of the Indian Section of the Hong Kong Police Force.

we can now agree to the Governor's suggestion that a non- pensionable residential allowance of 20% of total emoluments may be paid to Indian ranks of the Police Force, subject to a maximum of HK $50 per month. I understand that this new arrangement should lead to a substantial saving compared to the proposed provision for free rations. Our agreement to the Governor's proposal is of course subject to what may be proposed by the Salaries Commission with regard to Indian police pay.

Miss A.M. Ruston,

Colonial Office.

Yours sincerely,

Tmn Super
